Faye Gregson | Marind Dreaming - FREE WEST PAPUA | 2017
Medium Used: Graphite, ink and coloured pencil
Dimensions: 37.0 cm (H), 49.0 cm (W).
ARTIST’S STATEMENT: The West Papuan people ( represented by this Marind Tribe Girl with the Morning Star in her eyes which is the important symbol on their flag and in their hearts) are working and waiting to be set free from Indonesian oppression, historical and present injustice and for their country to be healed from environmental degradation. They are hoping soon to be put on the Decolonisation List to fulfil Dag Hammarskjold’s plan for emerging colonised nations. This plan was foiled by him being killed in 1961. These are some of Dag Hammarskjold’s quotes which live on to bring healing and hope to West Papua and our troubled world.
