Qian, hailing from China, pursued a Master of Curatorship. Meanwhile, Hyejin, originally from Korea, is currently studying Arts and Cultural Management. Together, we created a unique community using photography and collage techniques to express our own interpretations.
"This work answers the question of what constitutes a sustainable community. We took photos of people from different backgrounds, printed their portraits, dismantled them, and then combined them to create a new face. The disharmony of combining a diverse range of faces represents how a community is comprised of various people with unique identities. The new face that emerges is a statement that people can live in harmony despite their differences.
An individual in a crowd does not stand out and is just a part of a great whole. However, when you pay attention and look closely at each person, you will realise how many intriguing stories an individual has. Those abundant stories are gathered and contribute to the vitality of a sustainable community. Amidst the invisible richness of the community, how much you will enjoy this sense of kinship is entirely up to the individual."
Our artwork aimed to capture the vibrant diversity within a community. It celebrated the fusion of disparate elements, breathing life into a richly diverse collective. The intention behind this piece aligns with the concept of "Healing the Community," emphasizing inclusiveness and transcending boundaries.
