Community Art workshops
The upcoming Community Art Workshops presented by Planetary Healing Artists’ Association of Australia for ‘Healing the Community’ are aimed at amplifying social connection and participation, by providing a creative haven, breaking down social barriers and fostering a sense of belonging, through an inclusive approach. Facilitated by our First Nations artist Thelma Beeton and multicultural artist, Javad (Jodi) Kashani, these workshops will occur Saturday 10th & 24th August, offering a safe and inclusive space for creative expression. A group artwork created will be exhibited in the ‘Healing the Community’ art exhibition. Shared artistic experience addresses the pressing need for community connection, creative expression, and support for a belonging to the community.
THELMA BEETON - Thelma, is a Palawa woman with family ties to Cape Barren Island off the north-east coast of Tasmania. Most of Thelma’s work is inspired by her totem, the Tasmanian Emu. She first started creating work with The Torch in 2016 and has developed a unique painting style using bold and colorful backgrounds with depictions of emus. Thelma has exhibited in many group exhibitions since 2016. She was the recipient of The Torch’s Dennis Thorpe Award in 2020 and in 2021 exhibited at Dark Mofo in The Tench curated by Theia Connell.
JAVAD KASHANI - Javad (Jodi), (Naarm/Melbourne) is a creative director, multidisciplinary artist, and academic researcher who makes mixed-media works on paper informed by a profound and abiding passion for literature. Incorporating poetic text and tender pictorial elements, both figurative and abstract, Javad uses their visual language, research, and lived experience to explore the theme of gender and the wider human condition.
