Happy Makar Sankranti!

Makar Sankranti is celebrated in January 14 - 15 every year and marks the first day of the sun’s transition into the sun sign Capricorn or Makara in Hindi. The festival is dedicated to the Sun God. Makar Sankranti’s importance isn’t just limited to its religious significance. In fact, the festival also marks the beginning of the harvest season. This signifies change in season, as from this day the Sun begins its movement from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana, i.e from the south to the north hemisphere.

Based on sunrise - This year, Makar Sankranti will fall on Sunday, January 15, 2023 in India (In Australia it falls on the 14th January). It is celebrated in different names across India but the essence remains the same. Happy Makar Sankranti!
